Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a work at home mom and also be a Homeschooler? As if being a parent wasn’t enough!
Today, we have the pleasure of reading about a momma that wears many hats at home. As I’m sure most of us do!
I met Zei in a Facebook group of handmade creatives back when I used to create girls’ accessories and right away realized she was a cool and fun person. (I’m sure we still use that word right?)
Well, I found out she was from Puerto Rico and thought, oh she must be VERY outgoing! I had a former supervisor who was from Puerto Rico and she was amazingly cheerful and always smiling, so right away I felt a connection with Zei.
But, let’s get to the meaty part of this featured woman, who not only is a wonderful mother but also a great womanpreneur!

Tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Zei. I’m a Project Manager on permanent vacations + a SAHM + a WAHM, that homeschools a 5th Grader, takes care of an active toddler, and runs a small biz – named Pelhuaz by Red.
Would you consider yourself an introvert or extrovert? Why?
I’m more of an extroverted kind of person. I love talking and most of the time I’m friendly and outspoken. That last part grants me more “unfriends” than I dare to admit.
Tell us about your products/services? How did you come about this idea? How did you begin?
Pelhuaz by Red is a small home-based business with headquarters in Caguas, PR. I offer wearable therapy with my handmade indie jewelry and modern stylish clothing.
Also, offer mugs, prints, and downloadable wallpapers designed for your phone or tablet. Pelhuaz by Red’s unique designs are perfect for everyday wear or special occasions!
Did you have startup costs? What were your startup costs?
Actually yes, even though it wasn’t a high one. I decided to get my domain, so the cost related to get it and the web hosting were the startup costs.
How long have you been in business? When did you start seeing income?
I initiated the Pelhuaz by Red business back in 2013. Hosting and running my own website was back in August 2016.
Did you have any bumps on the road at any time? How have you overcome setbacks?
Yes, we all had them some way or another. In my case, there’s a lot of handmade jewelry businesses and most of them think that you are a threat, instead of a possible business partner. Even though I sell jewelry and apparel, I like promoting others and make reviews on my blog.
Did you self-teach, took courses or learned from someone else?
Yes, I learned Photoshop all by myself!
How do you come up with the many different pieces/services?
I just get inspired by my everyday surroundings. For example. I have an apparel design named Sleep Deprived… We all Moms are related to that… And how about my “Neurotic Mama” design? 😀
For many that are thinking of becoming entrepreneurs, what advice would you give them?
Find your tribe… and love them hard… Sometimes running a Small Biz by yourself can be overwhelming, but if you establish a solid supporting group, you can overcome anything.
How do you balance work and life?
As Zei mentioned, “running a small biz by yourself can be overwhelming.” But, if you set your mind to it, make a plan and execute that plan, you will more than likely SUCCEED.
P.S. If you like planners or having a planner with you at all times, Zei will be having a Planner Addict Collection starting February 1st. Visit her blog for more details.
If you are an entrepreneur and would like to get featured, please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
